課題

Rapid product launches left NectarHR with time-consuming, manual feature tagging that strained limited marketing resources and risked data inaccuracies.

Pendoでの取り組み

Using Pendo's AI tagging to automate element identification, NectarHR streamlined product analytics workflows across teams.

結果

Tagging time decreased by 99%, taking just 30 minutes for two product launches. The automated workflow also surfaced hidden UI bugs and enabled non-technical team members to tag features independently.

Think about the last time someone at work said "great job" and it actually landed. A shout-out from a manager, or a small reward that said "we noticed."

Now imagine trying to make that happen for thousands of employees at once, including the ones who spend their days on a warehouse floor, in a hospital, or behind a hotel front desk and never sit at a desk to check email.

These employee-boosting initiatives are exactly what NectarHR was built for. Nectar is an employee experience platform for HR teams, with recognition and rewards, internal communications, surveys, and automated workflows in one place.

The idea is simple: HR teams shouldn't have to spend their days chasing down tools, reminders, and spreadsheets when what they care about is their people. Nectar handles the busywork so they can focus on the human side of the job.

Building a product like Nectar means shipping a lot, and quickly. In August alone, Nectar launched five new products. For Holly Higgins, Senior Customer Marketing Manager, every launch comes with the same question: Is it landing with customers? She uses Pendo to find out, and getting a clear answer starts with something unglamorous: making sure each new feature is tagged correctly.

Why clean data matters

Everything Holly does in Pendo starts with tagging: marking the right buttons, pages, and workflows so Pendo can measure them. When tags are accurate and consistent, the rest of the work follows. Adoption and expansion dashboards show what's real, goals for a new launch track the right behavior, and in-app guides reach the right users at the right moment.

When tags are missing, wrong, or attached to the wrong element, every downstream number gets shaky. A launch goal measures the wrong click. A dashboard undercounts a feature. A guide misses the people it was built for. With a new product shipping every few weeks, small gaps compound quickly.

Five launches, one marketer, no tagging backlog

In August, Nectar launched five new products in a single month. Due to shifts in staffing, Higgins found herself as the only person responsible for tagging right as the launch began.

Tagging is how Pendo learns what to measure in a new product, and doing it well requires a clear understanding of how that product works. Higgins was tagging products she hadn't built, so each launch meant getting up to speed on new workflows and tracking down the right elements in the underlying code. She estimates that tagging two launches would have taken close to a week. With five products on the calendar and no one to share the load, that was time she didn't have.

Then she tried AI tagging. She tagged both launches in about 30 minutes total. That’s 99% faster tagging than without AI’s help.

Bonus: Bug fixes and sharing the load

AI tagging also turned up something nobody expected. At one point, it read an entire page as a single button. That odd result pointed to a transparent overlay that had been sitting on top of real content, unintended and unseen. Higgins couldn't have explained the problem in technical terms herself, but she didn't have to. She showed engineering what AI tagging had found, and they cleaned up the underlying code. A tool meant to speed up tagging ended up making the product itself better.

The biggest change was who does the tagging. It used to run through Higgins alone. Now that it takes minutes instead of days, Nectar's product team has started tagging launches and setting goals themselves. A colleague building self-serve onboarding guides had never used Pendo before and always asked Higgins to tag things for her. After she showed her AI tagging, Higgins says, "she was so excited," and she can now do it on her own.

The value of Pendo beyond AI tagging

AI tagging is only part of how Nectar uses Pendo. Higgins’s team also uses it to reach customers inside the product, where some of their best results have come from.

In-app guides as a growth channel. Email can’t reach every customer, but Nectar's team found that a well-placed in-app guide does. A guide in the product's side rail points customers to upgrades and additional products right where they're already working. Since about July, that guide has converted 32 deals, compared with about one deal typically driven through email.

In-app banners for webinars. The same approach works for events. An in-app banner promoting a webinar drove roughly 80 times more registrants than email did. Registrants who came in through the banner were also about 92% more likely to attend.

MCP, every day. Higgins uses Pendo's MCP tooling daily for reporting, including product adoption and expansion dashboards. The benefits have spread beyond her own work. While she was out of the office, her boss, who doesn't know Pendo well, had Claude build seven launch guides through MCP, and finished before she got back. A Nectar co-founder later asked in Slack whether Pendo could power an internal nomination workflow he had in mind. Holly showed him how MCP could generate it. What would have taken engineering significant time took a few minutes.

Get started with AI tagging

If you haven’t already, enable AI tagging in your subscription settings. And if you’ve already got the setting enabled, AI tagging will show up by default when you go to tag your data.
