Starting with the basics.

Tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are large language models (LLMs). They were trained on enormous amounts of text and learned to predict what a useful response looks like given what you typed. Pattern-matching at a scale that feels like intelligence. Four things to keep in mind:

AI is confident, but sometimes wrong.

Always verify output before using it.

AI won't remember you.

Each conversation starts fresh unless memory is explicitly enabled.

LLMs have a knowledge cutoff.

Ask about something after their training data ends and you'll get a wrong answer or an "I don't know."

Your prompt determines the quality of output.

Prompting is the first skill to learn — and the highest-leverage one.
