Product Love Podcast: David Flinner, co-founder of Levels

Published Nov 19, 2021

On this week’s episode of Product Love, I sat down next to David Flinner, co-founder of Levels. Levels makes it easy for people to see how their diet and lifestyle affect their health in a quantifiable way by measuring biomarkers in real-time.

Before Levels, he was a product manager at Google, which he accredits to as an incredible growing experience. As a result, he’s carried over a lot of key learnings from Google’s product organization.

However, the startup space required more of a mental shift. For an enterprise, product requires more velocity and quality, so shipping takes much more time. For startups, the customer base isn’t big enough to have that approach. Instead, David believes startups should be talking to customers, shipping frequently, and evaluating its’ performance. We also discussed product principles, which is absolutely essential for any organization. Product principles have to tie back to your company’s foundational goals and values. It sets the foundation for any team. However, principles need to be something that’s repeatable, quick, and easy to facilitate in the absence of any broader direction.
